Mobile Bike Shop Operator

Wheel & Sprocket is a nationally-recognized specialty bicycle retailer with eight brick-and-mortar locations, an e-commerce operation and a new mobile bike shop business in collaboration with Beeline Bikes. The Mobile Bike Shop Operator position oversees all activity related to operating a mobile shop out of a full-size Ford Transit van. A multi-faceted job, the Operator must be connected to the unique culture of the company, understand and accept the hard work requirements to ramp up a new business. A successful Mobile Operator understands Wheel & Sprocket’s mission to share our passion for cycling to make a positive difference in our community, and can translate that into overall P+L excellence.

Job Description

  • Technical responsibilities
    • Log documented work
      • Perform at-home or at-work consumer service calls as scheduled
        • Be able to perform most, if not all levels of bicycle repair
        • Sell at least three part/accessory units per transaction for each bike serviced
        • Take opportunity to service or schedule future return for other bikes
        • "Market" the business in casual conversation, ask consumer about referrals and workplace opportunities
      • Fulfill direct-to-consumer online bike orders
        • Sell at least three part/accessory units per transaction for each bike fulfilled
        • Take opportunity to service or schedule future return for other bikes
        • "Market" the business in casual conversation, ask consumer about referrals and workplace opportunities
      • Contact businesses to build partnership and business opportunities
        • Work from a pre-determined prospect list
        • Offer approved discount programs for employees
    • Market and sell Mobile Bike Shop services
      • Work with management to market the services
      • Assist to set and maintain service labor pricing
      • Responsible for store reputation (emails/reviews)
    • Maintain operational excellence
      • Become fluent in the point-of-sale and inventory management systems
    • Participate in company-related events throughout Chicagoland
    • Engage with executive team and other peers to contribute to overall strategy, processes, sustainability

  • 3+ years bicycle retail/industry experience
  • Technology platforms: Google Apps (email, calendar, drive)

This position is based in Evanston, IL, but will operate in the greater Chicagoland area. The initial service area will be zip codes between Evanston and the Loop. Qualification Requirements 

  • Minimum 2-5 years of professional wrenching experience in a bicycle shop
  • Clean driving record, current driver's license & comfortable driving larger vehicles
  • Team attitude and ability to self manage time well
  • Able to lift 70 lbs.
  • Comfortable working remotely and interacting with customers
  • Pass background check
